Advanced Placement

Students entering the freshman class take special placement exams to determine their levels of competence. The Department of Hispanic Languages and Literatures recognizes the limitations of these exams and accordingly maintains a flexible and practical policy to help each student determine the most appropriate class level.

We urge prospective students to speak with a departmental representative for assistance with placement determinations. Credit by examination students may receive credit for Spanish courses beyond SPAN 0002. Normally, credit earned by examination is limited to three courses beyond SPAN 0004. Similar credits may be earned in Portuguese.
