This volume explores the work of Cuban poet Nicolás Guillén from multiple perspectives, including race, revolution and history, latinamericanism, Caribbean identity, transculturation, socialism, and the technical innovations of the poet. Additionally, the volume addresses key issues of 20th century Cuban life and the various representations of the writer. This book, conceived as a tribute to Cuba’s National Poet to mark the 100-year anniversary of his birth, gathers the perspectives of those voices who have distinguished themselves in “la crítica guilleneana” in the past three decades, as well as new voices and essays.
