My
research focuses on the L1 acquisition of the syntax and semantics of
the Determiner Phrase. I am interested in the relationship between L1 acquisition, grammaticalization and diachronic change.
I am fascinated by all aspects of syntax,
psycholinguistics and the syntax/semantics interface. These days a
growing percentage of my research is devoted investigating Augmentative
and Alternative Communication (AAC). I am curious about how linguistics
can inform the field of AAC. I am also keenly interested in how users
of AAC, who generally have some period of being immersed in language
without being able to produce it, may inform us about language
acquisition and the nature of human language.
My students are highly encouraged to assist me in my research and I
attempt to bring empirical work into the classroom as often as possible.
