Want a part in the Heinz Chapel Choir?

Auditions are open to all registered students at the University of Pittsburgh. One way to sign up for an audition is to visit the HCC table at the Student activities Fair in the Petersen Events Center, which is held annually on the Sunday before the start of the fall semester. That's a great place to meet some of the current members and ask any questions you might have about the Choir. You can also sign up for an audition online up to two weeks before auditions are held. Auditions are 10 minutes long and are held during the first four days of classes during fall semester. If you have problems scheduling an audition or have any questions, please contact HCC’s director, Dr. Susan Rice.

What to Prepare

Auditions are limited to 10 minutes each and include:

(1) Vocalizing through your range
(2) Singing a short (at least 1 verse + chorus) prepared melody of your choice, a cappella
(3) Rhythmic and melodic sightsinging exercises
(4) Rhythmic and melodic aural memory exercises

Auditions will be held in Dr. Rice's office in the Music Building (room 128)

Auditions are held only in the fall. Although we do make some adjustments to our roster over winter break due to members studying abroad, we generally pull from our list of alternates to round out the Choir. (So don't give up hope if you're picked as an alternate!)
