WHAT ARE SPECIALIZATION COURSES?
Specialization on Geographical Area  (9 credits)

Students are required to complete at least three courses focusing in the study of one geographical area. Courses selected should be consistent (regionally) with the chosen language/methodology and study track, as illustrated below:  A list of areas and course offerings is provided further below.

• Industrialized Countries: Canada, Australia, Europe, East Asia
• Developing Countries: Latin America, Africa, Asia

  Specialization on Theme (9 credits)

• Thematic specialization:  Students pursuing an expertise in a specific topic or issue area rather than a geographic region (usually in the 3rd track) will want to choose courses relevant to their selected field of study.  For example, this may be any of the following: environmental studies, international business, human rights, race and ethnicity, international law, comparative health care, labor conflicts, global economy, comparative literature, comparative culture and thought, internships/field study, study abroad, a second language specialization human resources management (business), government non-profit accounting (business), statistics/research methods in the context of international studies cross-regional comparisons (e.g. Latin America and Asia), women’s issues (e.g. women in the third world).....and much, much more....
