The Pittsburgh-Cleveland Catalysis Society held its 2007 spring meeting on May 23rd on the campus of West Virginia University.
Over 30 society members were in attendance to hear presentations from ten graduate students. A keynote address titled "Liquid Hydrocarbon Based Fuel Cell Systems - Technology Development Options & Status" was given by Dave Berry of the National Energy Technology Laboratory.
Student awards were given to three students to recognize their outstanding presentations:
- Tom Sanders (University of Pittsburgh, in the group of Götz Veser) for his presentation entitled
"Structural Evaluation and Reactive Applications for High-Temperature Stabilized Nanocomposite Catalysis"
- Lymarie Semidey-Flecha (Carnegie Mellon University, in the group of David Sholl) for her presentation entitled "Combining Density Functional Theory and Cluster Expansion Methods to Predict H2 Permeance Through Pd-based Binary Alloy Membranes"
- Ye Huang (Carnegie Mellon University, in the group of Andrew Gellman) for his presentation entitled "The Enantioselective Behavior of Chiral Molecules on Naturally Chiral Surfaces"
During the meeting, a new panel of society officers was elected by unanimous vote.
The new slate of officers for the 2007/2008 year are:
President: John Kitchin, Carnegie Mellon University
President-Elect: Jim Miller, Carnegie Mellon University
Secretary: Michael Janik, Pennsylvania State University
Treasurer: Marge Nasta, Carnegie Mellon
Director: Götz Veser, University of Pittsburgh
