Small group communication focuses on the process of
influence among group
members by the use of verbal and nonverbal information.
We refer to a small group
in which individuals percieve each other and are aware
of each other as individuals
when they interact. A small group is usually made
of 3 to 7 members, occassionally
more. Interaction is necessary in small group communication.
As members use
verbal and nonverbal behavior to relay messages to
each other, understand these
messages, explain them, and react to them, they are
participating in small group
communication. While the basics of communication are
to be used in any
communication context, our emphasis is communication
that occurs within the small
group.
