I. Approval of Minutes
I attach the minutes of the meeting on November 18, 2003.
II. Proposal to Establish a Certificate in Global Health
I attach a proposal to establish a certificate in Global Health,
initiated by Associate Dean Meryl Karol and supported by Dean Goldstein
of the Graduate School of Public Health. It is expected that
the certificate program will attract both students currently pursuing a
degree and students who will enroll only to pursue the certificate.
The program will prepare students for interdisciplinary and international
thinking and perspectives in health care and affiliated fields.
III. International Students and Recent Events
Following the recommendation of UCGS at our last meeting, I invited
David Clubb, Director of the Office of International Services, to present
an overview of changes in federal regulations and federal departments or
agencies that may affect international students, administrators of graduate
programs and the Office of International Services. This is an update
of the presentation he made at our meeting a little over a year ago.
IV. Proposal Concerning Programs in Sports Medicine and Nutrition
I attach a proposal submitted by Clifford Brubaker, Dean of the School
of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, concerning changes in the programs
offered by the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition and the Sports Medicine
Program. The program changes are described in the spread sheet attached
to the proposal. The major academic change is the elevation of the
professional coordinated program in dietetics from the BS level to the
MS level. The department name would be changed to Department of Sports
Medicine and Nutrition.
