I. Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the last meeting of UCGS are attached for your review.

II. Role of UCGS
Elizabeth Baranger will briefly discuss the role of UCGS in the governance of graduate studies at Pitt.

III. Activities of Council in 1995-96
The draft of the 1995-96 annual report of the UCGS and the annual report for the 1994-95 year are attached. Council will be asked to approve "Report of 1995-96 Activities" which will then be mailed to faculty in early October.

IV. Proposal to Change the Name of the MLS Degree
At its meeting on June 6, 1996 UCGS approved the change of the names of the School of Information Sciences, and its two departments, but stated it was not ready to recommend changes in the names of its degrees. It now asks that the Master of Library Science be changed to the Master of Library and Information Science. A proposal is attached. Representatives from the program will attend the meeting.

V. Future Activities of UCGS for 1996-97.
We will discuss some issues which should be agenda items. Any ideas members have about initiatives UCGS should explore or problems which need to be solved should be brought for discussion.
