I. Approval of Minutes

The minutes of the last meeting of UCGS are attached for your review.

II. Evaluation of the Graduate Programs in the Department of English

The report of the Subcommittee on the Evaluation of Academic Programs (see attached) will be presented by the liaison, Ian Reynolds. Professor David Bartholomae, chair of the department, and Professor Daniel Everett, chair of the Internal Review Committee, will attend the meeting to answer any questions concerning the review. Any member who wishes to review the Internal Review Committee Report, the External Review Committee Report, and the Department's Response in 801 C.L. should contact Kristin Anderson.

III. Post Doctoral Task Force Report

I attach a report prepared by the Postdoctoral Task Force which will be presented by the chair, Ian Reynolds. We considered this briefly at the last meeting. I would like a fuller consideration of and action on the recommendations.

IV. Council of Graduate Schools' Resolution

I attach a copy of the resolution of the Council of Graduate Schools regarding the timing of offers of financial aid to graduate students. I also attach a memo I sent out several years ago and am planning to send out this week. There has been an objection to our signing of this resolution, the reasons behind our signing it, and the objections which have recently surfaced.
