AGENDA
I. Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the last meeting of UCGS are attached for your review.
II. Proposal for a Master of Occupational Therapy Program
I attach a proposal to initiate a program leading to a Master of Occupational Therapy in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. The initiation of this program will also mean the phasing out of the undergraduate program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy. Dean Brubaker and Professor Joan Rogers, director of the proposed program, will attend the meeting to present the case and answer questions.
III. Revised Definition of Special Status Admission
At its meeting on September 22, 1998, the University Council on Graduate Study requested the Graduate Procedures Committee to draft a revision of the Special Status Student section of Regulations Governing Graduate Study by removing #2 and modifying #3 to permit all schools to permit students to use credits earned on special status toward subsequent degree programs. Attached is their revised draft which they recommend for approval.
IV. Post Doctoral Task Force Report
I attach a report prepared by the Postdoctoral Task Force which will be presented by the chair, Ian Reynolds. We may not have time to consider all recommendations of the report at this meeting and will then continue the discussion at our next meeting.
V. Evaluation of the Graduate Programs in the Department of History of Music
The report of the Subcommittee on the Evaluation of Academic Programs (see attached) will be presented by the liaison, Ed Sussna. Professor David Brodbeck, chair of the department, and Professor Bruce McConachie, chair of the Internal Review Committee, will attend the meeting to answer any questions concerning the review. Any member who wishes to review the Internal Review Committee Report, the External Review Committee Report, and the Department's Response in 801 C.L. should contact Kristin Anderson.
VI. Suggestions for Initial Consideration by the Academic Procedures Committee
Four items will be referred to the Academic Procedures Committee for initial review: a request from the School of Law that graduates of the LLM program be awarded honors at graduation; use by some schools of provisional status for students who have not yet received their bachelors at the time of the admission action; ways to encourage the use of the new Writing GRE Examination, and the possibility of extending application to graduate school via the Web.
