A manual designed to help children work through the inner journey of the ravages of war and its traumatising effects on the way children view themselves and the world.
Divided into two parts : 7-10 years, or grades I-IV and 11-14 years, or grades V-VIII
Conceived in the context of the war in the former Yugoslavia with the hope that the ideas it contains will stimulate thinking and help others in different parts of the world to adapt the ideas to their specific locations.

- Community Services for Urban Refugees (1994)
Focuses on improving the ability of refugees to deal with their immediate problems, helping them help themselves and restoring a sense of security. Urban refugees present a difficult task of coping with a population that is often widely dispersed, undirected, unemployed and destitute. Main problems observed among urban refugees are family breakdowns, lack of basic amenities, inability to integrate into host community, various emotional problems, etc.

- Protection of Children in Refugee Emergency (1995)
Report based on experiences of social workers from the Radda Barnen emergency standby team seconded to UNHCR in the 1994 Rwanda conflict. Focus in on some of the gaps in the protection of the most vulnerable in refugee emergencies: the children. Encourages discussion on ways to improve social work methods (which include education and psychosocial rehabilitation) in refugee emergencies.

- Social Services in Refugee Emergencies
Document addresses need to provide security and stability to refugees. While immediate objective of a social welfare service in an emergency is to respond to the basic needs of food, clothing and shelter, the less tangible psychosocial and emotional needs should also be considered. Aims to address how to respond to refugees' needs by understanding what they lack to live a full human life. Advocates understanding the affected and involving them in planning. Includes: Needs Assessment, Planning actions and Community building. Also addresses areas and groups requiring special attention such as unaccompanied children, single-parent households, the elderly, disabled, etc.

- Refugee Children: Guideline on Protection and Care
Outlines UNHCR's guidelines on protection and care of refugee children for the purpose of improving and enhancing their protection and care. At the core of these guidelines lies the realization of children's' need for special care and assistance and that refugee children face far and greater dangers to their safety and well-being than the average child.
