13. Tibetan delegates focus on education http://www.chinanews.com/news/9603/04/030403aa.eng Beijing, March 4 (CNS) -- Delegates from Tibet will table proposals on vocational education at the upcoming National People's Congress(NPC). A Tibetan delegate, Bai Zhen, said that in addition to motions on individual proposals relating to the development of the Region being presented by the group from Tibet, she herself would submit four proposals focusing on vocational education in the Tibetan Autonomous Region. The Region presently has just one well-equipped vocational training centre, which far from meets local demand, Miss Bai Zhen said. It was built with financial support from the Region's Education Commission. As the local economy got off to a late start and was short of capital, she suggested that the central government annually earmark a special fund for the development of vocational education in Tibet. According to authorities, 16 of the twenty NPC delegates from Tibet will attend the upcoming Congress. Of the four absentees, two are on duty, one has fallen ill and the other is hemmed in by heavy snow falls. --end item CNS 0304-03
