Often, men are afraid of the embarrassment or ridicule that might come along with admitting that they have been abused by a woman. They are taught that a real man wouldn't let his wife get away with hitting him but in most cases the opposite is true. Men who are in abusive relationships often refuse to hit their wife back and simply take the abuse thinking that she couldn't possibly do as much harm to him as he would do to her if he retaliated.
