Fax: 412-648-7568The business meeting in San Antonio on April 6, 1997 was chaired by Moderator Lorilei Tanji and called to order at 9:45 a.m. The first item of business was to nominate and elect a new Incoming-Moderator for 97/98. The new officers for 1997/98 are:
Moderator: Ray Anne Lockard (University of Pittsburgh)
In-Coming Moderator: Lynn Underwood (Yale University)
Update Column Editor: Liz Ginno (California State University, Hayward)Ms. Tanji then led the group in a discussion of the Strategic Plan. Item 35 calls for the possibility of creating an e-mail distribution list, but a majority of attendees prefer to use ARLIS-L. Item 38, which calls for a web site, has been addressed. The site was created by Lorilei Tanji and Ray Anne Lockard in 1996/97. The current officers will update it during Summer 1997 and maintain it throughout the year. They are also discussing new relevant links for the site. Unfortunately, the group did not reach a consensus on actions to be taken on other SP items, so the officers will dialogue on the subject throughout the year.
One project being addressed during 1997/98 by two Division members is the construction of an art timeline for reference purposes. When developed and designed, it will be mounted on the ARLIS web site. The idea for this reference project began in an e-mail discussion on ARLIS-L in 1996. Susan Jurist is working on the project with Ray Anne Lockard and Mary Graham. Serious work will begin on it during Summer term 1997.
The Moderator and Update Column Editor are also conversing on topics for future issues of Update. A call for ideas will soon be issued on ARLIS-L. One possibility is to have different Division members write on various topics relevant to art librarianship in academic libraries (i.e., the demise of the subject specialist). We will issue a call for these columns on ARLIS-L during Summer 1997.
Six exceptional program proposals were written by Division members and accepted for the 1998 annual conference in Philadelphia. They include:
From “They Never Covered This in Library School . . .” to “What Is IBZ?”: Research Tools for Art and Architecture
Half-day pre-conference workshop that will include general reference works useful in the field of art and architecture as well as specific art and architecture reference resources.
