How are people finding SatchLCall?

SatchLCall is featured on several different resource lists, and can also be found through various Web search engines. What follows is a basic breakdown of how people are getting to SatchLCall. These stats are combined totals for all SatchLCall pages.

The subcatagories under JARS and BUBL are to differentiate between when someone found SatchLCall by using the JARS or BUBL site searches versus when someone found SatchLCall by browsing the JARS and BUBL directories. The way the JFind service has setup its site search, you cannot tell who found SatchLCall by searching versus browsing, so no subcatagories are present.

Note that some Web search services license and use a variety of different actual search engine software products. For example, the Netscape and Yahoo search pages run Google software. Likewise, some search sites actually query multiple services. When you type a search in Metacrawler, it searches the Lycos catalog, the Excite catalog, and many others. The statistics listed below count the search page, not the behind the scenes search engine. In other words, a search started at search.netscape.com is listed as a Netscape search, even though it queries Google. Only a search started at google.com is reported as a Google search, etc..

"Known Link To Pages" are Web sites that have been identified as having linked to the SatchLCall product. If possible, links back to Link To pages are provided. This is not always possible, as sometimes such pages are located on course reserve or other restricted access sites. "Internal Link" means that someone moved back and forth among pages within the SatchLCall site. "No Referer" means just that, no page referer information was recorded. This is often an indication that someone has bookmarked the site or has typed in the URL manually. "Undetermined Referer" means that refering data was provided, but that it was from an address for which the statistics reporting script does not explicitly check, most likely a more obscure search engine or from within an email message (as in when you send a message to someone saying "take a look at this link").

Who is using SatchLCall?

By checking remote host/IP address, it is possible to do some basic analysis on what types of users are loading SatchLCall pages, i.e. from where they are doing that loading (.com, .edu, foreign countries, etc.). The Pitt entries are to track use of SatchLCall at its "home" institution. Pitt totals are also included in the overall host statistics. "No Host" means that no host name information was provided, only an IP address. In such instances no separate attempt to resolve the domain name is made. "Undetermined Host" means that the host was from a domain that is not explictly counted, probably a foreign country whose domain suffix has not been manually checked by the stats script.

What time of day are people using SatchLCall?

Simple date/time culling, adjusted for Daylight Savings Time. All date/time info is for Eastern Standard/Eastern Daylight Time. The time listed is the EST/EDT time that the request was made to the server. It says nothing about the local time of the client who made the request. A patron in England making a request at 1:00am GMT would actually get logged as a 8:00pm EST request.
