In 1993,
The Council on Minority Student Support (COMSS) was formed
and given a charge by the Chancellor of the University of
Pittsburgh, to bring into a singular forum the retention
efforts aimed at first year students. COMSS contains a liason
from every area of the university that has a direct impact
on student life including Admissions and Financial Aid,
all academic centers, Counseling and Student Development,
New Student Programs, Office of Residence Life, and other.
COMSS meets bi-weekly to discuss issues related to under-represented
students, student concerns, interventions and broader campus
issues that may ultimately impact upon minority students.
