Re:  Read-In

Date:  May 9, 2001

As a culminating activity for our Spring Reading Initiative, we will have a READ-IN, a school wide SSR (sustained silent reading) in the gym on Wed. May 30 beginning at 9:30 am and ending about 10:00 am.  See details below.

The Reading Chain continues to grow along the library ceiling.  As of May 8 we have read a total of 135,725 pages.  We are behind last year’s page total for this date.  Remember to fill out Book Badges for books read or listened to.  Parents, teachers, siblings are all invited to participate by filling out Book Badges.   If a book is read aloud to a group, only one Book Badge need to be filled out. Write an equation on the pages line.  (Example:  26 x 32 pgs.)

Read-In:

Everyone should report to the gym at 9:30.  Areas in the gym will be designated with signs for middle, intermediate and primary.  Teachers are asked to sit with their students.  To avoid a “traffic jam” at the main gym door, the outside doors will also be used, weather permitting.

Enter gym as follows:

Back gym door closest to the library:  Students in library building, rooms 221, 222, 111

Back gym door closest to the playground:  Rooms 224, 225, 116

Main gym door:  Computer room, Art room, Music room, and rooms 112, 115

The second period teachers will bring their middle school students to the gym.

Please remind your students to bring appropriate reading materials that day.  I will announce the total page tally and total books read and signal the beginning of SSR.  The Reading Chain will be on display in the gym.

Everyone is invited.  Bring a book, magazine, or newspaper and share this celebration of reading!
