During the most recent evaluation of our data for the Resuscitation Outcomes Study (ROC,) the investigators found that our discharge alive rate for cardiac arrest was a historic high of 16%. This is a truly remarkable finding since the average survival rate for most large cities is approximately 3%. The overwhelming majority of our survivors are neurologically intact and functional in activities of daily life.
Our success is due to multiple factors including an emphasis on good CPR, delayed airway interventions, post resuscitation blood pressure support with epinephrine and the initiation of hypothermia therapy.

Our website was created in order to communicate with our members and non-members who are interested in learning about our profession here in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Founded in 1978, the Fraternal Association of Professional Paramedics was formed in order to bring together fellow members of the EMS community with the intention to surge forward, as one, becoming the best we can be. Today the Union is made up of four locals including Pittsburgh EMS, Valley Ambulance Authority, Medical Rescue Team South, and Munhall EMS. While these services span a broad spectrum, they are all joined by the Union allowing us to speak and move together as one.

The Fraternal Association of Professional Paramedics encourages all members to take an active role in their union and to visit this site for news, updates, future events and to Email thoughts and suggestions. Most importantly, we wish our members to revel in their work and to put their best effort forward in all of their endeavors.
