Ambulatory Care Course

The practices of all of the members of the department serve as office sites for the Ambulatory Care Course. In the second half of the first year, first year medical students are assigned to a practicing physicians office for approximately 10 half-day sessions scattered over a five-month window. This major component of the Ambulatory Care Course offers the student the opportunity to form a relationship with a practicing physician, observe continuity of care, study the doctor-patient relationship and gain some preliminary experience in office practice. Additionally, students are introduced to the economics of medicine.
