New Autosamplers on 300 MHz NMRs

Starting Tuesday, January 10th, at noon,
autosamplers will be installed on both 300MHz
NMR instruments. Both autosamplers will be
controlled by the IconNMR automation software.
Instructions for using both instruments are
available on the NMR website:
http://www.chem.pitt.edu/facilities/nmr-
spectroscopy-0 .

The time limits on the instruments will be as
follows:

301B (13th Floor)
Daytime Hours: 8 AM - 11 PM
Daytime limit: 15 minutes
Nighttime Hours: 11PM - 8 AM
Nighttime limit: 4 hours

Nighttime experiments can be submitted in
advance to the system. Instructions for
submitting nighttime experiments on the 301b
are available online in the guide "Using the
SampleExpress".

300 (4th Floor)
Daytime Hours: 8 AM - 10 PM
Daytime limit: 15 minutes
Nighttime Hours: 10 PM - 8 AM
Nighttime limit: 11 hours

Due to hardware limitations, night experiments
cannot be submitted before 10 PM to NMR 300.
Thus, we will continue to use the FACES
scheduling system to schedule night time on
this instrument. Instructions for how to set
up nighttime experiments on this NMR 300 are
posted online in the guide "Using the
NMRCase".

Additionally, some aspects of the 400A policy
will be changed:

Nighttime experiments can be submitted in
advance to the system.. Instructions for
submitting nighttime experiments on the 301b
are available online in the guide "Using the
SampleExpress".

400A:
The nighttime hours will remain the same as
before, 9PM - 9AM.
The daytime time limit will increase to 30
minutes per sample.
Please contact the NMR Facility if there are
any questions or concerns about the operation
or policies of the new autosamplers.

The staff of the NMR Facility (Dr. Damodaran Krishnan and Sage Bowser) announced today that the second phase of the upgrade of the NMR facility is complete. In this phase, the facility replaced an aging 500 MHz with a new 500, and replaced two old 300 MHz instruments with two modern 400 MHz instruments. In addition, the console to the 600 MHz instrument was upgraded and an autosampler was added. Phase 1 of the upgrade was completed about a year ago and involved installation of a new 700 MHz instrument. The upgrade was supported by an anonymous donor, by a grant from the NIH, and by the University and Chemistry Department.
