National Scholarships

In the past few years, environmental studies students have distinguished themselves in prestigious local and national scholarship competitions. Awards have included three Morris K. Udall scholarships and a Harry S. Truman national scholarship. Pitt's Environmental Studies Program is one of the few programs to boast multiple winners for these nationally recognized foundations.

University Scholarships

Environmental Studies Field Experience/Study Abroad Scholarship

The Department of Geology and Planetary Science’s Environmental Studies major provides a field experience/field study scholarship of up to $3,000 for spring and/or summer terms. The number and amount of scholarship aid depend on the number and quality of applications. The money is designed to offset traveling and other expenses associated with field camps and study abroad opportunities for environmental studies majors. Samuel B. Frazier Undergraduate Book Scholarship

Family and friends of Samuel B. Frazier, an esteemed alumnus of the department, established this scholarship using donations in his memory. The scholarship is open to all undergraduate students currently enrolled full time in the Department of Geology and Planetary Science at the University of Pittsburgh. Two awards of $100 each will be awarded in the fall and spring terms each year. The award will be in the form of a gift certificate to the University’s Book Center. Applications are available from the department’s graduate administrator:
