OUR MISSION

O ver the past half-century, economic development among the countries of the Caribbean region has led to societal and lifestyle changes which are associated with the development of chronic diseases such as diabetes. Current trends in economic development suggest that the frequency of chronic illnesses will continue to increase unless effective prevention programs are established. However, to develop effective and cost efficient intervention programs, reliable information about the frequency of disease and associated risk factors is essential.

The mission of the Virgin Islands Center for Chronic Disease Research is to address this need through its research and training and service activities.
