Caribbean Advances is a quarterly newsletter published by the Virgin Islands Center for Chronic Disease Research. The aim of Caribbean Advances is to provide up to date information about research, treatment, and prevention of chronic diseases among Caribbean peoples. While much of our emphasis is on diabetes mellitus, we also cover other diabetes-related chronic diseases including, hypertension, obesity, and cardiovascular disease.

The newsletter has several sections :

In theGuest Commentary , regional and international experts in various fields of public health provide their views on a subject of relevance to the surveillance, treatment, or prevention of chronic diseases in the Caribbean. A section is dedicated to providing Health Tips to assist the patient to better manage his/her illness. Center News , provides an update or summary of the results of the regional projects coordinated by the VICCDR. Diabetes Practice , is the section that presents practical applications of the results of research studies of diabetes or related diseases. A special section of the newsletter presents reports of the efforts of Diabetic Associations throughout the Caribbean. In Round de Caribbean , regional health-related symposiums, conferences, or other activities are highlighted.

This quarter, in our on-line version of the Caribbean Advances, we are featuring the Guest Commentary, Center News Sections.
