Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for Students

WHO SHOULD USE THIS SITE?
Students who are in the process of learning to write research papers for college courses.  Exercises and information are available here that will help you learn the format and conventions of research papers, especially for North American colleges.

WHAT IS THE BENEFIT TO ME?
Can I get feedback from the instructor?
Not from your own instructor, but you can have some questions answered by Charlie Frowd, the designer of this website and Lionel Menasche, the author of Writing a Research Paper.

DO I NEED TO USE THE BOOK?
Yes.  This site is not an alternative to the textbook.  It is a supplement to the book.

ARE THE EXERCISES FOR STUDENTS FROM ANY COUNTRY OR LANGUAGE BACKGROUND?
Yes.  Only advanced learners will be working on writing research papers, and they are all working towards the same goal, so it doesnít matter what their backgrounds are.

WHERE DO I GO NEXT, ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB FOR MORE PRACTICE?
As far as we know, there are no other websites that assist ESL students with exercises on different aspects of learning to write research papers.  However, there are many websites for ESL learners that provide general English language practice and some that focus on writing activities.  There are also websites intended as reference guides for different editorial styles in formatting research papers.
