Lecture Description:

  This lecture is designed to introduce the reader to the fundamental issues underlying our understanding of crashes among older drivers. This lecture will outline the crash risk related to older drivers, the characteristics of crashes among older drivers, and discuss licensing policy for older drivers.


  On completion of the lecture, readers will be able to:

  • Identify how the crash risk differs for older drivers compared to other ages
  • Identify how the fatality risk differs for older drivers
  • Identify how crash characteristics differ among older drivers
  • Understand the current environment which shapes licensing policy for older drivers
  • Identify how medical issues can affect driving among older citizens
