Lecture Description:

  This lecture is designed to introduce the basic concepts underlying disasters and the injuries resulting from disasters. Environmental changes on a global scale suggest that the frequency of disasters may be increasing. What does this mean with respect to injuries. This lecture will overview the epidemiologic evidence available regarding disasters and outline the injuries of concern. It concludes with an brief overview of disaster preparedness.


  On completion of the lecture, readers will be able to:

  • Recognize epidemiologic approaches to studying disasters
  • Understand the factors that contribute to disasters
