Regional Stable Isotope Laboratory for Earth and Environmental Science Research

Dedicated wet chemistry and storage facilities:

  • Biogeochemistry lab (600 ft2) housing a  8' fume hood and a 6' HF-grade fume hood, autoclave, and multiple centrifuges for pollen extractions and isotopic sample preparation.  This lab also houses a gamma spectrometer for measurement of gamma-emitting radio-isotopes including 137Cs and 210Pb.
  • A shared sediment core processing lab (800 ft2) featuring a walk-in cold room, automated magnetic susceptibility track with a Bartington Susceptibility meter, muffle furnaces, and drying ovens.
  • A shared microanalysis lab (200 ft2) for pollen and diatom counting and identification.  Leica microscope with digital camera.
  • Walk-in freezer and cooler (200 ft2) for sample storage.
