Odysseus' determination to leave Kalypso (Odyssey, 5.215-224), despite her offer to make him ageless and immortal (athanaton kai ageraon, 5.136) can be better understood through comparison with various Rig-Veda passages, particularly RV III.53.15. Beyond Odyssey, Book 5, this presentation also attempts to provide a broader view of Odysseus' relationship with other divinities, such as Athena.
