About Me:

I am an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Pittsburgh.

I received my Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University in 2008. In 2006-2007, I was awarded a Peace Scholar Dissertation Fellowship from the United States Institute of Peace.

My primary research project explores how international actors can promote and defend democratic norms. I focus in particular on questions revolving around electoral misconduct: When, where and how does the international community respond to flawed elections? How does this international involvement influence the domestic government, the opposition, and ultimately, political outcomes? How do the efforts of regional organizations to defend democratic norms compare to those of the United States and the United Nations? The answers to these questions influence our understanding of how international norms and commitments are enforced, as well as the conditions under which commitments to democracy within international organizations are costly and credible.
