I. WELCOME and Charge to the committee
Dr. Talbott welcomed everyone and each member introduced themselves to the committee. She explained the EPC initiates proposals and recommendations that stimulate the development of excellence in educational programs and the educational climate of the University. The Committee also reacts to university-wide issues and proposals that relate to the educational mission of the University.
II. Distribution list of members and setting of schedule for the meetings.
The distribution list, schedule and minutes of the last meeting were given out.
III. Advisory Council for Academic Excellence: minutes of previous meeting (Sept 18) and plans for teaching excellence fair
Information regarding the Advisory Council on Instructional Excellence - November 15 from 10 am to 2 pm is the "Teaching Excellence Fair" in the Connolly Ballroom of Alumni Hall
IV. Old business:
IRB wording change for the Department of Communication Science and Disorders in conjunction with VA Hospital Research. Elizabeth Baranger will be asked to report on progress for a clarification of research integrity/ assurance statement for graduate students.
V. New Business:
There was a discussion of potential topics for the committee for the upcoming year. Topics included space issues and issues concerning diversity. Suggestions followed.
Sam Conte will be asked to give an overview on classroom space and scheduling at the next meeting.
It was suggested to invite Diane Davis of CIDDE to speak at one of the meetings to give an overview. She has visited state related institutions of higher learning and is aware of facilities and resources of other universities.
Dr. Daniel will be invited to speak at one of the future meetings on student affairs and diversity.
Jason Somma has joined the EPC as an appointed member of the SGB.
New buildings on campus and facilities for students will also be discussed.
Bruce Steele will be attending the EPC meetings, Mr. Steele is from the University Times.
Next Meeting: October 15, 2002 in 109 Parran Hall/GSPH (All meetings will now take place in 109 Parran).
