The meeting was called to order at 12:03 pm

Attendees: Tom Metzger, Charis Jones, Justin Hsieh, Peter Hart, Johnathan White, Tony Silvestre, Nancy Grove, Susan Sereika, Irene Frieze, Ivanka Nikolova

1) Approval of Minutes

The minutes of the April meeting were approved.

2) Chair Report

a) Attended expanded executive committee meeting and things occurred:

i. Same-sex benefits have been passed, but more research is being done by Anti-discriminatory Policies Committee.

ii. Campus Climate was also discussed

iii. Retirement and medical benefits were discussed.

iv. Faculty and staff will apparently never be able to use the Petersen event Center

b) Provost Advisory Committee on Institutional Excellence

i. Charge of the Year evaluates impact of I.E. Awards.

ii. Publicize teaching excellence

iii. Advise CIDDE in terms of what to run for summer instruction with October 27th from 9-1 pm at the Alumni Hall "Teaching Excellence Fair".

3) Campus Climate Report

SEPC has been charged to give report to Faculty Assembly. There are two reports:

a) One by Irene Frieze named, "The Role of Women at Pitt," which was done in 2001-2002

b) One by Susan Rankin done in 2000 (14 schools participated). There is a harassment that occurs to G.L.B.T.

Chair will cite both reports and suggest collaboration with Anti-discriminatory Committee to make a solid recommendation. In October, the Chair will clear confusion regarding two reports and explain that SEPC will work on a recommendation with regard to both reports that will have concrete steps toward campus climate qualms.
