1) The approval of minutes for September 23, 2003
Dr. Metzger noticed that the Faculty Senate Plenary Session and the FAS Meeting will overlap on November 6th.
2) REPORT of scheduled Senate Plenary Session Report Dr. Knapp
Preliminary information on the Senate's website. Dr. Knapp will check with Fran Czak to get more information.
Update: Senate confirmed that the plenary is set for The Fall Senate Plenary Session "Perspectives of Shared Governance" is scheduled for Thursday, November 6, 2003 at 2:00 PM in the Assembly Room, William Pitt Union.
Dr. Knapp did attend the Spring Plenary session of the Roles of Women at Pitt. The committee had the first meeting what will be covered in the publicity. The one thing mentioned was the Campus Climate Survey from Pitt done in 2002. Given to and answered by undergraduates. Concerns - 35% said instructors told sexually explicit jokes.
3) Campus Climate discussion.
More review needs to be done and will be discussed at the next meeting.
Tony Silvestri mentioned students are afraid to report incidents of harassment, afraid of counseling service, fear of confidentiality.
4) Discussion of University policy regarding Lab Fees
Fees go to School (Dean then Chair) procedures are spelled out.
School of Nursing uses money for cost of replacements, TAs or Work Study.
School of Engineering uses it for operating expenses (85%), you have to put in proposals for the money.
It was suggested to check with the School's Budget and Policy's Committee.
5) Sam Conti contacted regarding use of classrooms. Dr. Metzger remarked that years ago PBC NSF spot checked the rooms and found 25% of the rooms scheduled were not used.
Committee was satisfied that, for the most part, that he classrooms are used as specified.
