SUMMARY OF MEETING:
1. The minutes from December 11, 2001 were approved.
Old business:
2. An update was given on SEPC part-time faculty questionnaire.
a. 138 were returned of the 695 sent.
b. The questionnaires will not be resent, but will be analyzed as planned.
c. Ms. Talbott hopes to have some values and analysis available for discussion at the next meeting.
d. A subcommittee was created to address approximately 25% of the questionnaire who in addition to answering the satisfaction questions also provided significant written comments in the comments section of the questionnaire. This subcommittee will be comprised of Deb Aaron, Amy Knapp, Cathy Bender and Tom Metzger.
e. All data will be "cross-tabbed" by school, department, et cetera.
f. Problems with the questionnaires concerning departmental and school codes were addressed by the committee and corrected.
g. Evelyn Talbott indicated that the data would be entered from the questionnaire by the next meeting and we could begin looking at basic descriptives by department and school. We hope to have the report completed by the end of March or early April.
3. The ACIE minutes were passed out and summarized by Dr. Talbott.
a. The deadline for the submission of proposals for the "Innovation in Education" has been extended.
b. Several ideas for the "Summer Institute" were considered although "large classroom teaching" appears to be favored.
4. A summary of the HERL VA policies was provided by Evelyn Talbott to Dr.Baranger's office and the committee provided a background regarding the issue discussed last month concerning student work on research projects and their responsibilities.
a. Dr. Baranger discussed the policy with Dr. Cooper who said he believed that the policy was applicable only to students working on their dissertation/ thesis.
She commented that if it is for the students' thesis, the accuracy of the data collection is of course inextricably bound to the defense of his or her thesis. It almost goes without saying that data accuracy and validity are part of the academic training and the integrity of the process. However, if the research project has nothing to do with the thesis topic and is a work-related issue for the research, a student's graduation requirements do not appear to be part of the equation. She requested more information concerning a student certification form that was not provided to our committee. The topic was tabled until we can obtain a copy of this document
New Business:
1. Dr. Crossman was elected to be a regular voting member instead of pro-tem as Dr. Schott is on sabbatical.
The next meeting will still be the second Tuesday. Therefore, it will be February 12, 2002 at 12pm in 650 WPU. A light lunch will be served.
