Biography

Emanuel N. Vergis, M.D., M.P.H. is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and a member of its HIV-AIDS Unit. He is also the Program Director for the Infectious Diseases fellowship training program, and is responsible for the teaching and educational efforts of the Division as they relate primarily to the School of Medicine, as well as to house staff and fellows. His research has focused on community-acquired pneumonia, nosocomial pneumonia in long-term care patients, resistant enterococcal infections, and salvage therapy for chronically HIV-infected individuals. He is a co-investigator on the Adult AIDS Clinical Trials Group (AACTG) protocol A5086 which will study structured treatment interruptions in HIV-infected individuals having limited drug salvage therapeutic options. He is also co-chairperson on AACTG protocol A5143 which will study the efficacy of triple protease inhibitor treatment in HIV-infected individuals having prior extensive antiretroviral treatment experience resulting in limited therapeutic options.
