Japanese Literature and Culture -- Open Rank, for Fall Term 2010
The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures of the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a rank open position for its Japanese literature and culture program, pending budgetary approval. The appointment will begin on August 30, 2010 or another date agreeable to the candidate and the University. The successful candidate will be a specialist in either pre-modern/classical Japanese literature or modern Japanese literature, with teaching and research interests in such areas as performing or visual arts across cultures or disciplines. Responsibilities will include teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, mentoring students, and working with other Asia specialists on campus. The candidate must exhibit leadership and vision, possess an excellent record of research, teaching, and service, and have an energetic and engaging personality for propelling the program to the next level of excellence.
The University of Pittsburgh is one of the prestigious Title VI East Asian National Resource Centers in the United States and has dedicated substantial resources to international studies. The East Asian Library is one of the best in the nation, and there are superlative research facilities, as well as generous funds for research and teaching.
