Protocol and Rules
Upon approval as Basic 300 MHz NMR user, you will receive a welcoming email to your pitt email account from the FACES system, which will provide a username and a temporary password for the PITTCHEMNMR group.
NMR problems can be reported to Macduff (4-8760, CSC920) or Damodaran (CSC1308).
FAILURE TO OBEY THE FOLLOWING RULES WILL LEAD TO A SUSPENSION OF NMR PRIVILEGES.
Rules
- You MUST log your name, experiment, solvent, etc into the brown book every time you use an NMR spectrometer.
- You can only sign up for one NMR at a time.
- NMR 301b is reserved for walk up access Mondays through Saturdays from 8am to 10pm and Sunday from 12pm to 5pm.
- Sign up for a particular day can begin only after a certain time:
- Tuesday signup can begin Monday at 9am
- Wednesday signup can begin Tuesday at 9am
- Thursday signup can begin Wednesday at 9am
- Friday signup can begin Thursday at 9am
- Saturday, Sunday or Monday signup can begin Friday at 9am
- Users can only reserve a specific amount of time depending upon the day of week
- M-F: day slots begin 8am and end 4pm with a 30 min limit.
- M-F: evening slots begin 4pm and end 10pm with a 2 hour limit.
- S-S: slots begin 8am and end 10pm with a 10 hour limit.
- Overnight: slots all run from 10pm to 8am.
- Exemptions to early sign up and extended hours are available on a case-by-case basis to meet special needs. Request and justify an exception by email to Damodaran at least two days in advance.
