APPLICATION FOR FELLOWSHIP

The Program for Cultural Studies announces i= ts graduate fellowship competition for 2007-2008. Students in A & S gradua= te programs working toward or having completed Ph.D. certification in Cultural Studies are invited to apply. The Program’s two fellowships are typically awarded to advanced PhD students at or past the s= tage of comprehensive examinations.

 

Applications should consist of:

     =        1. Cultural Studies Application form (this shee= t);

     =        2. Graduate transcripts in English;<= /span>

     =        3. Three letters of reference, forwarded by the referee;

     =        4. One writing sample, related to the dissertat= ion topic, in English of 10 to 20 pages   &nb= sp;     (one side only; 12 pt. font; more than 20 pa= ges will not be accepted);

     =        5. Current curriculum vitae;<= /p>

     =        6. List of up to 6 Cultural Studies courses completed (see http://www.pitt.edu/~cultural/ =      for course database);

     =        7. Statement of purpose (3 to 5 pages)*

 

* The statement of purpose should include a paragraph that situates the student's work in two respects: across discipli= nes and within the diversity of cultural studies. Students beginning dissertati= on proposals should demonstrate that they work with tools of cultural analysis= already developed in earlier studies. Keep in mind that the Writing Sample and Statement of Purpose will be read by a committee of informed non-specialists from as many as seven disciplines. Students who will use the fellowship to pursue research outside Pittsb= urgh must indicate where they would be studying and why. The fellowship must be = the sole source of financial support during the academic year.

 

The stipend is based on the same scale as the TA/TF allocations. These rates for the coming year have not yet been announ= ced.
