Optional Research Papers
If you are unable to complete your
research participation requirement in time,
or if you simply don't want
to be a research participant at all, then you have another option.
You may write one or more research
papers instead. Browse through recent issues
of such magazines as Scientific
American, Time or Newsweek, Discovery, Smithsonian,
Psychology Today, and so on. Find an article
that is relevant to psychology
and then read it
carefully. Write a brief summary of the article,
relating it to issues that
discussed in your textbook or in class.
Your paper should be
typewritten (double-spaced) and at least 500 words (text only) in length.
Don't forget to note the
author and title of your article, and where it appeared
(magazine, year/month, page
numbers). Also, be sure to include on the paper
your own name and the name
of your instructor.
Papers can be mailed to Dr. Moreland as attachments
(preferably
Microsoft Word files) to email messages.
Caution!
All papers will be checked for plagiarism
(pretending that you wrote text that was actually copied from another
source).
Papers that are found to contain plagiarized material will be rejected.
All papers must be sent to Dr. Richard Moreland by
June 15th (for Summer 6-Week 1) or by
July 27th (for Summer 6-Week
2)
Each
paper that you write will count for one hour of research participation.
Please note that in
order to receive any credit for your papers, you must register
with the research participation
website (http://experimetrix.com/pitt).
