This toy model shows people going from their home towns to work and then restaurants and back home again.

We can expose people to temptations, including cigarettes in a public place (a restaurant). Another temptation is seeing other people smoke. So we have sliders indicating persons' chances of being tempted by a) other persons, or b) environmental temptations, including seeing cigarettes or availability of alcoholic drink. You can set those sliders at any percentage. You also can set the presence of environmental temptations (cigarettes or drink) on or off, at any time.

Persons tempted remain in a temptation state for a certain duration, which you can adjust with a slider. At the end the temptation state, a person succumbs to smoking if their smoking abstinence self efficacy is low OR there smoking abstinence positive expectancies are low. You can set a certain percentage of persons at a high abstinence self efficacy, and you can set a certain percentage of persons at a high abstinence positive expectancy. You also can set the proportion of persons initially with a negative affect (displayed as sad faces).

Once people beging smoking, they continue smoking for a duration set by your smoking duration slider.

There is a slider to set the numbers of person in population 1, and the number in population 2. Those two populations go to separate workplaces restaurants (population 1 goes to work place 1 and restaurant 1) but the two populations mix in their home town. Eventually, I will double each slider so that we can set each of the two populations with different levels of efficacy, expectancy, durations etc., to allow quick comparisons. That will also allow a more diverse mix of combinations of attributes. Eventually, I will set levels of self-efficacy rather than just a high or low setting. And we can set a variety of relationships between temptations, efficacy, duration of lapse etc.

I included a local governmental authority which can set a smoking ban, once the smoking ban authority switch is set on. That may reduce smoking contagion.
