You are cordially invited to attend the presentation of Dr. Rod K. Dishman on Monday, March 6, 2000 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Room 129 Victoria Building. The presentation is sponsored by the Center for Research in Chronic Disorders. Rod K. Dishman, PhD, Professor of Exercise Science and Director of the Exercise Psychology Laboratory at the University of Georgia, Athens, will present, Fighting Sloth in Market Economies: Problems of theory, methods, and results. A reception will be held in the lobby immediately following the presentation to provide the opportunity to meet Dr. Dishman. Dr. Dishmans research interest is in psychological adaptations to exercise and exercise adherence. His current grant is Promotion of Physical Activity in High School Girls, funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. His past grants include: the effects of acute exercise on caffeine-induced insomnia and cardiorespiratory fitness, blood pressure, anxiety and autonomic responses in African-Americans with mild hypertension. Since 1995, he has served as a member of the selection committee of the Medical Commission of the International Olympic Committee for awarding The Olympic Prize, a $500,000 biannual award for excellence in the science and medicine of sport. In 1996, he was a contributing author on Physical Activity and Health: A report of the Surgeon General, from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Currently, he is a section editor for International Journal of Sport Psychology and serves on the editorial board for ACSMs Health and Fitness Journal, The Journal of Occupational Rehabilitation, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, and Journal of Sport Sciences. His most recent book is Physical Activity for Health and Fitness (1999) from Human Kinetics Publishers. Determinants of physical activity: Research to application published in J. Rippe et al.
