Robert Kaplan, PhD

You are cordially invited to attend a presentation sponsored by the Center for Research in Chronic Disorders on April 22, 1996 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Room 123 of Victoria Building.

Robert M. Kaplan, PhD, Professor of Family and Preventive Medicine and Chief of the Division of Health Care Sciences at the University of California, San Diego will present, "Quality of Life and Patient Decision-Making." A reception will be held in the lobby immediately following the presentation to give individuals the occasion to meet Dr. Kaplan.

We are fortunate to bring to university constituents the opportunity to meet Dr. Kaplan and hear his extensive work on quality of life research. His recent publications include:

  1. "The general health policy model: An integrated approach," published in the book, Quality of Life and Pharmacoeconomics in Clinical Trials (1995);

  2. "Validity of the Quality of Well-Being Scale for Persons with HIV infection," published in Psychosomatic Medicine (1995);

  3. "Utility assessment for estimating quality-adjusted life years," published in the book, Valuing Health Care; Costs, Benefits, and Effectiveness of Pharmaceuticals and Other Medical Technologies (1995);

  4. "Using quality of life information to set priorities in health policy," published in Social Indicators Research (1994).

He also published his own book, Health and Human Behavior, in 1993. He is currently the President of the Society of Behavioral Medicine and Vice President of the International Society of Health Psychology (Japan). He was the 1993 president of the American Psychological Association, Health Psychology Division as well as the 1995 vice president of the International Society for Quality of Life Research. He is on the Elected Executive Council for the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research and serves as an Associate Editor for the Annals of Behavioral Medicine and a consulting editor of the Journal of Psychosocial Oncology and Quality of Life Research.
