You are cordially invited to attend a research methodology workshop sponsored by the Center for Research in Chronic Disorders on March 18, 1996 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Room 123 of Victoria Building.
Harris Cooper, PhD, Professor of Psychology and Research Associate at the Center for Research in Social Behavior, University of Missouri in Columbia will conduct a workshop entitled, "Overview of Research Synthesis and Meta-Analytic Procedures." A fifteen minute break with refreshments and snacks will be held in the lobby at 1:30 p.m.
We are fortunate to have the opportunity for university constituents to meet Dr. Cooper and learn how to conduct a research synthesis. His book, Integrating Research: A Guide for Literature Reviews, is in its second edition, with over ten printings. The text is intended to teach advanced undergraduate and graduate students how to conduct all phases of research synthesis. He is also the editor, with Larry Hedges, of the Handbook of Research Synthesis (Cooper and Hedges, 1994). Dr. Cooper and his students have published research reviews in varied prestigious journals including the Psychological Bulletin, the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, the Review of Education Research, the Journal of Marketing Research, and Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology.
Dr. Cooper's research grants include three awards from the National Science Foundation, single grants from the Department of Education, the National Institute of Education's Dissemination in Practice Program, the Russell Sage Foundation, and a National Research Service Award from the ADAMHA.
In 1984, Dr. Cooper received the first Raymond B. Cattell Early Career Award for Programmatic Research from the American Educational Research Association. The award is given to "a scholar who has conducted a distinguished program of educational research within the first decade following receipt of the doctoral degree."
Dr. Cooper is an Associate Editor of Social Psychology of Education, the Elementary School Journal, and the Journal of Experimental Education.
We are delighted Dr. Cooper chose to visit the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. Please RSVP by March 18 to Stephanine Duplaga at 624-7838. We hope you are able to join us!
