Advances in Spatial Information Science
Research Symposium
May 24 & 25, 2007

We are pleased to announce the inaugural symposium for the Spatial Information Science Research Interest Group at the University of Pittsburgh. The symposium will be bring together a group of leading scholars in the area of Spatial Information Science to discuss recent advances and new directions.

Spatial Information Science is a growing field that is concerned with computational, technical, and cognitive aspects of acquiring, storing, manipulating, using and understanding spatial information. The Spatial Information Science Research Interest Group (SIS-RIG) at the University of Pittsburgh has recently been formed and is pleased to be able to offer this inaugural symposium.

On Thursday May 24 and Friday May 25 we will be gathering at the University of Pittsburgh for the symposium, Advances in Spatial Information Science. The meeting will begin with a reception, dinner and opening keynote address Thursday May 24, hosted by Dean Larsen of the School of Information Sciences. The agenda on Friday will consist of paired 20 minute presentations followed by 20 minutes of discussion. The afternoon will also include opportunities for smaller discussions for research teams that might want to explore joint funding and publication opportunities in the coming year. Student activities will be highlighted through a poster session during the meeting.

If there is interest on the part of the participants, we will seek publishing a subset of articles based on the symposium in an edited book or a special issue of a journal. Full papers from those wishing to contribute to this endeavor would be asked to submit full papers 4-6 months after the symposium.

We hope you find this to be an exciting opportunity and we hope you can attend. A list of speakers will appear on this website as they are confirmed.
