Engineering 715 : Engineering Applications for Society

-About me-

I'm a college freshman at the University of Pittsburgh School of Engineering. I haven't decided on which department to go into but whichever I choose it will most likely end with a double major.

My life outside of school is the life I really enjoy. The outdoors is my home. I'm an avid mountain biker, skiier, rock climber, backpacker, and all around outdoors enthusiest. The combination of my dad and Boy Scouts is what got me into the out doors. For my Eagle Project I mapped 20 miles of trails at a local park using my bike and a GPS. Over the next summer I'm hoping to create a trailmap for all of the trails in a 50 mile radius of where I live.

In addition to my ambitious mapping project I'm going back to Philmont, a backpacking ranch in New Mexico, for my 3rd trip, but this time I'm going as a crew leader which should make the trip more challenging and enjoybale.

-Community Partner-

DRS is a department within the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh, and is located in RM 216 of the William Pitt Union.

-Project Information-

In the spring semester of 2006, 2 teams of the pilot ENGR 0715 service learning course worked with Lynett van Slyke of DRS, who had identified a need for an interactive map which aided in the identification and description of the accessible entrances to all academic buildings of the university. The students designed and developed this web page in addition to obtaining and if necessary, measuring the details for each entrance. This map is currently online and can be found on the DRS home website by clicking Campus Map
