Visits to the Nurse: Problem Category Distribution

The 983 visits to the nurse during 1997-98 were distributed among 19 health problem categories. The top category was Nose, Throat, and Respiratory problems, comprising 35% of visits to the nurse. Skin injuries and problems constituted the second leading category of visits at 14%, followed by Musculo-skeletal injuries and problems at 9%.

Physician Visits, Consults, and Referrals

26% of all visits to the nurse resulted in a campus physician visit or consult, for a total of 80 visits to the campus physician during the scheduled medical clinics on campus, and 179 verbal or telephone consultations between the campus physician and the nurse. In addition, there were 73 referrals to specialists and community health care agencies.
