My name is Christine Marshall. I am from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I went to Central High School. I am interested in math and dance. I love to read books. I decided to major in engineering because I wanted something that involved both science and math. I know I didn’t want to be a math major because you would have to learn all the theory behind math. Engineering so far has been the right choice for me because I get to do math and science but with a little more work. Pitt was my second choice. I was going to go to Virginia Tech but then the shooting happened. I didn’t think I could deal having to experience a sad time every year. Many years ago, I decided what I wanted to be. I often had conversations with older people in my family and discussed what I would be when I got older. Through the years I often worried what the world would be like when I am grown with a family of my own. I often wondered if anyone would figure out how to cure many of the major ailments that plaque our society. It was unheard of when I was young to know someone that was infected with the AIDS virus, but now it’s almost common place to know someone with the virus or know someone that has someone in their family with the virus. I decided to major in Bioengineering because I wanted to go to medical school. I believed that this would distinguish me from other pre-med students because I can apply engineering principles to medicine.
