I just heard an alarming statistic about robberies. Did you know that a robbery occurs every 4 minutes, usually during the day, and usually in homes that have no apparent alarm systems? I found this statistic to be astounding. I had no idea that there was that much chance of being robbed, and that this was happening during daylight hours. It really makes you think about getting a home security monitoring system.
There are many choices of security systems that are available to the general public. There are wireless and wired alarm systems. Wireless is good to add to an existing home. They are a bit more expensive than the hard wired versions, but a hard wired alarm is something that you can only add during remodeling or when building a new home.
These days home security systems are reasonably priced and not only protect your home from intrusion, they also protect your family from carbon monoxide poisoning and provide a smoke alarm as well. If any alarm goes off the security company calls you, and you have a secret word or number that you give them that you use if you want to tell them it is a false alarm. This way, if someone breaks into your home and answers the phone, they can’t just tell the security company that it is a false alarm unless they know the code word. Pretty ingenious system they have created.
In any case, my mom got one of these wireless home security system and I think you will find this interesting. The whole reason she purchased it was to keep her grandkids in. She moved to a home on a lake and she was concerned that the little tykes might get up and go outside when no one else was up, so she bought a home security system and sets it up at night, this way the alarm will go off if one of the doors opens. She finds that this allows her to rest when her grandkids come to visit.
One day, she was sitting for her 2 grandsons and she needed to upstairs and take a shower. They were old enough at the time 6 & 8 to leave unattended for a few minutes, they were watching a movie. Before she went upstairs, she had the forethought to set the alarm, and sure enough the youngest one tried to open the door and the alarm sounded. Well, needless to say my mother came running downstairs in a towel. If you knew my mom you would know how truly funny this is. Anyway, when the alarm had sounded, it scared the little guy so much that he shut the door and sat on the couch like nothing had happened. I am sure it was funnier when she told it to me, then it actually was at the time.
