My name is Corey Ray and I am a Freshman Engineering Student in the Swanson School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.
I came to the University of Pittsburgh from St. Clairsville, Ohio, a small town of approximately 5,000 people located about an hour southwest of the city. I graduated from St. Clairsville High School
in May 2008. While in high school,I was captain of the varsity soccer team as well as a member of the National Honor Society. I also participated in the Post Secondary Enrollment Option Program (PSEOP)
which allowed me to attend Ohio University during my junior and senior years. I plan on graduating with a bachelor's degree in bioengineering, and my interest
in the field of engineering has been with me from a young age. This interest stems primarily from a deep pool of family members who have also become engineers.
I chose bioengineering because it combines two of the subjects that interest me most, math and medicine, and the University of Pittsburgh's proximity to home
made college selection a no brainer for me. Outside of school, I am a huge Pittsburgh sports fan. Whether it be the Pirates, Panthers, Penguins, or Steelers, I closely follow any team wearing the Black
(or Blue) and Gold . I also enjoy playing the occasional video game or hanging out around campus with my friends. After graduation, I plan on attending medical school where I hope to become a
neurologist or a neurosurgeon.
Our Community Partner: Oakland Planning and Development Corporation
The goal of my group's project is to complete an accurate and efficient American with Disabilities Act (ADA) analysis of a housing facility located in North Oakland. We will closely examine each unit in the facility to make sure it meets the regulations set for by the ADA. By the end of term, we will submit a report summarizing our findings and reporting any violations my group and I may discover.
