* Antigua, West Indies; March 1986 w/ Jeanne Baker; a.k.a: "The white
pants interview"; shown on Entertainment Tonight tv show in the US
- This is a very "revealing" interview to say the least! The opening
shot of Keith walking down the pier in white pants with apparently nothing
underneath has often been the topic of discussion between female fans.
The interview itself is also good if you can pay attention after that!
Keith's enthusiasm for playing live is obvious, perhaps more magnified
due to the fact that at this time, Stones activity was very low.
* Old Grey Whistle Test tv show; October 1974; BBC tv (UK)
- This could be called the "mellow" interview. Keith is very "relaxed"
(read: stoned) and the soft-spoken interviewer speaks to him almost as
if he were a child, prompting him along gently and constantly saying Keith's
name. Keith talks about playing on Ronnie Wood's recent solo album and
the upcoming Stones tour.
* Australian press conference/interview; February 1973; partial clip
seen on 25 x 5 home video
- An interview where Keith speaks rather sadly about the death of Brian
Jones, noting that there are some people who we all know won't make it
to 30 years old. Rather ironic considering that Keith himself was considered
to be one of these people by some at this time. During the press conference,
Keith calmly backs up an irritated Mick when an interviewer rather rudely
suggests that the clothes they wear are offensive.
* 1989 various interviews for 25 x 5 home video
- The interviews that Keith did for the 25 x 5 Stones documentary are
quite interesting, as they provide insight as to what Keith's thoughts
are regarding The Stones' history. One of the best lines occurs when he
states, "Some things get better with age - like me!"
* Friday Night Videos tv show; June 1986 w/ Paul Shaffer
- Having Paul Shaffer (the band leader for David Letterman, etc.) as
a co-host and interviewer was a good choice, as his musical knowledge allowed
Keith to discuss music and songwriting more specifically, something that
only musicians can do well (as opposed to regular interviewers.) We also
are treated to a jam, including the first aired version of the "new" song
'Sleep Tonight'.
* VH1 "One to One" tv show; Keith's home in Point of View, Jamaica;
February 1996 w/ Anthony DeCurtis
- In this interview we find Keith in his "Jah mon" role, very cool
with the ever-present drink and cigarette, wearing a hat and holding his
special "walking stick." Perhaps helped along by his drink, Keith eagerly
discusses various topics such as music (including his jamming with local
reggae musicians whom we see), The Stones, and life in general. Keith also
gives a partial tour of his house.
* Hampton, Virginia 12-18-81; PPV live concert; also seen on Let's
Spend the Night Together movie
- During the song 'Satisfaction', numerous balloons are accidentally
released directly on the stage. A fan tries to take advantage of the moment,
running quickly toward the Stones as they play. Keith spots the offender,
takes off his guitar, and swings it toward the fan's head who luckily (for
him!) ducks out of the way just in time and is then chased back the way
he came by security. Keith calmly puts his guitar back on and keeps playing.
Asked about the incident later, Keith replies that the fan was on his turf
and "could have been a nutter...I'm going to chop the mother down!"
* One Hit to the Body video-making 1986; shown on UK tv
- This is one of those amusing events that could have gone wrong but
thankfully didn't. During a break on the set, Ronnie takes a moment to
fix his hair. Keith swaggers over, grabs the hairspray, and starts working
on his own. This in itself is amusing if you think about it, but the main
problem is that Keith is smoking (the cig is still in his mouth) while
using an aerosol spray! Didn't anyone teach these guys fire safety?!
* 1972 US tour hotel room; as seen in C*cksucker Blues movie
- There are a number of funny scenes in this movie, but one of my favorites
is when Keith attempts to order fruit from room service. For some reason
the woman at the front desk finds it very difficult to fill his order -
one of blueberries and strawberries! A very strange incident not to be
missed.
* Hail! Hail! Rock n' Roll movie 1986; w/ Chuck Berry
- During part of this movie, Keith (and others) are at Chuck's home
studio preparing for the upcoming live show that they will perform together.
They attempt to run through the song 'Carol' with Keith playing the lead
guitar part. Unfortunately, Chuck, known for his controlling ways, constantly
stops and makes Keith play the introduction over and over, telling him
how to do it. The first couple of times Keith takes it in stride, but as
the interruptions continue, Keith becomes quite annoyed and the LOOK on
his face is classic.
